Roofing & Siding
Intense sun. Biting cold. Whipping wind. Heavy rain. Coastal New York home roofing and siding takes a beating, and the professionals at Murtha Construction know how important it is to protect what likely is your largest investment. Your goal: roofing and siding that’s attractive and that lasts.
Choosing the right materials
Murtha Construction does it all, including asphalt, wood shake and composite slate for roofing, and vinyl, cement board, authentic cedar shake or brick for siding. Our professionals can help you make the decision that fits your home’s location and your budget.
Take asphalt, the most common roofing material for Long Island-area homes. Not all shingles are created equally. There’s more to the decision than price, including life expectancy, the manufacturer’s warranty and proper installation to ensure your roofing gets its maximum efficiency rating. For example, when choosing a shingle color, be aware that a lighter color roof will reflect heat better and keep your home cooler.
Also, ventilation is critical and proper insulation is directly correlated to the life of your roof.
Siding
A big advantage of siding is that it can be used on existing surfaces such as brick, timber, cement block and existing weatherboards. If the siding is installed and maintained according to the manufacturer’s instructions, it will be resistant to moisture, termites and fire.

Siding typically has a long life span, with warranties lasting for up to 50 years depending on the type of material. It is easy to work with and quick to install, with the average house taking around two to five days to complete. It is available in a range of colors and, once installed, is practically maintenance-free. Some types of siding will need to be painted regularly, such as those made from timber.
Improving efficiency
If a home is not adequately insulated, re-siding efforts present a built-in opportunity to address that in a very cost-effective manner, such as adding foam board to increase the house’s R-value. National Grid rebates that include insulation and weatherization measures are available to customers who heat with gas on Long Island. Currently, eligible clients may be entitled to receive LIPA rebates as well as National Grid rebates. For gas customers, that can amount to as much as a 45% incentive. Murtha construction is expert at making certain our clients receive any and all rebates they are entitled to.

Anyone who has ever seen or had roofing or siding project knows that those two jobs can be the messiest when it comes to home construction and remodeling. Murtha’s mantra is “Quick, Clean, Guaranteed!” and nowhere is that mantra more evident than in our roofing and siding work.
