Long Island - Available Energy Programs and Incentives
Every homeowner on Long Island making less than $207,000/yr is entitled to a free energy audit. You can figure out the complicated process on your own or have the experts at Murtha handle it all. In addition to the guaranteed highest incentive, every Murtha client who elects to take advantage of the many incentives available is credited instantly, no waiting for a rebate check, no hassle and no missed opportunity for savings.
LIPA’s Home Performance with ENERGY STAR® Program: The Home Performance with ENERGY STAR® program is designed to make homes more efficient through the use of building science. Contractors who participate in the program are accredited by the Building Performance Institute. LIPA has contracted with Conservation Services group to administer the program. As part of the administration, CSG reviews each proposed project, approves all proposed measures, trains contractors and assures quality control. LIPA’s Home Performance with ENERGY STAR® is offered by all participating contractors. All Long Island homes with Central AC, a mini-split system or through the wall AC (Permanent installations) are eligible for a 50% incentive. We will also provide you with a detailed work scope, which will clearly identify each and every recommended measure, the total cost of that measure, how much the LIPA incentive is and how much the measure will cost you after incentive. Our goal is to provide you with estimated cost and savings so that you can make an educated decision.
LIPA’s Home Performance Direct program: ENERGY STAR Partner of the Year award winner!
The Home Performance Direct program is specifically targeted toward homes with Central AC. All Long Island homes with Central AC receive a 50% instant incentive to have the prescribed work performed. Qualified clients receive a free comprehensive energy audit as well as the following free services:
- Our team will conduct approximately 1 hour of HVAC duct-sealing services (provided there are ducts in the attic, crawl space or other areas outside the building envelope). This service is quantified for effectiveness by performing a blower door test before and after, which measures the amount of air leaking from your home.
- Our team will perform approximately 1 hour of air-sealing services (provided that all bath fans and dryer vents are properly vented to the outside of the home). This service is quantified for effectiveness by performing a blower door test before and after, which measures the amount of air leaking from your home.
- Our Team will change all appropriate interior incandescent light bulbs to compact florescent light bulbs (CFL). We are able to change most bulbs, with the exception of certain bulbs on dimmer switches, bulbs with a candelabra (small) base and three-way lamps.
- Our team will set up a laptop computer and portable printer in your home in order to model your home using specially designed software. When we are finished, you will be presented with an audit report that will estimate savings if you elect to perform the additional recommended work. We will also provide you with a detailed work scope, which will clearly identify each and every recommended measure, the total cost of that measure, how much the LIPA incentive is and how much the measure will cost you after incentive. Our goal is to provide you with estimated cost and savings analysis (Topped with a dose of Comfort and safety) before we leave your home, so that you can make an educated decision.
Regardless of the LIPA program you are eligible for, when you use Murtha Construction, we allow you to assign the incentive directly to us, meaning less out-of-pocket cost and no waiting for a check from LIPA!

National Grid High Efficiency Heating Rebates: Funding has been exhausted for the National Grid High Efficiency heating rebate program for 2011
National Grid EHSIP Insulation rebate program: National Grid has canceled the EHSIP program. Clients who heat with gas are eligible for LIPA and NYSERDA Incentives.

Long Island Green Homes: Long Island Green Homes is a nationally recognized program open to any Town of Babylon homeowner. Through the program, the town will issue a benefit assessment on your home enabling you to have efficiency work done now, and pay for it over time using the money you save on your energy bills. As an added substantial benefit to our clients, Murtha will provide instant incentive credit. Our competition includes the full contract price in your contract with the town. When the rebates come in (90-120 days) the town will re-calculate the loan and apply the new payment. If the incentives don't happen, guess who looses? You do! We are the experts at calculating incentives so we can confidently issue them to you up front to lower your initial payment, simplify the process and avoid unpleasant surprises down the road.
